Can damaged vehicles be put back on the road?

After an engineer has inspected a damaged vehicle, a decision is made as to whether the vehicle is fit to be returned to the road. If it is, a category “S” or “N” marker (meaning structural or non-structural damage) will be applied. The vehicle can then be sold via auction and following a repair it can be taxed, insured, mot’d and used on the road again. The marker remains against the vehicle for the rest of its life and can be found by completing a history check against the registration number.
